Chips Joint Undertaking Launch Event for Europe took place in Brussels, Belgium on 30/11/2023-01/12/2023 and represented a significant milestone in the evolution of the European semiconductor industry. Over two dynamic days, various key players from across the continent convened for insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and showcased cutting-edge projects.

Chips Joint Undertaking Launch Event for Europe took place in Brussels, Belgium on 30/11/2023-01/12/2023 and represented a significant milestone in the evolution of the European semiconductor industry. Over two dynamic days, various key players from across the continent convened for insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and showcasedcutting-edge projects.

The event was held in an interactive format facilitating exchanges of ideas, strategies, and visions to reinforce Europe’s standing in the global semiconductor landscape. The inaugural day commenced with Jari Kinaret, Executive Director of the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU), delivering a welcome speech outlining the event’s ambitions. Following this, Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, delivered a visionary keynote address on the Chips Act and digital Europe, resonating deeply with the audience.

FEDERATE is pleased to share that among Keynote speakers, Michael Paulweber, a representative of FEDERATE coordinator AVL List GmbH, actively contributed to panel session during the CHIPS JU launch event. He discussed and underscored the significance of CHIPS in shaping future technologies like Vehicle of the Future at an event attended by hundreds of passionate minds eager to contribute to shaping the future.

Other keynote speeches were given by Nikolai Setzer, CEO of Continental AG, and Jaime Martorell, Special Commissioner for Microelectronics and Semiconductors in Spain, which centered on “EU strategic autonomy and economic security.” A highlight of the event was the “Walk of Fame” exhibition, showcasing 30 funded projects and demonstrating the collaborative efforts driving the European semiconductor sector. Besides that, a number ofdetailed presentations were given by Lucilla Sioli, Director for “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Industry” at DG CNECT, European Commission and other Chips JU executives and DG CNECT representatives. 

The event also explored future challenges and directions in the Chips JU R&I program, featuring a panel discussion with industry leaders, and was concluded with presentations on ECS SRIA 2024 and upcoming Chips JU calls, expressing the view that it is more than just a Launch Event but also a networking hub. 

Chips Joint Undertaking Launch Event for Europe has been a successful one, showing a pivotal moment for the European chips industry. It underscored a commitment to innovation, strategic autonomy, and economic security, setting the stage for future advancements and collaborations.
