RHEINISCH-WESTFAELISCHE TECHNISCHE HOCHSCHULE AACHEN (RWTH)

About the company
Both the Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) and the Chair of Computer Science 11 (i11) have a long track record of research in the field of Software Defined Vehicles (SDV). In projects like UNICARagil, they have developed new architectures for fully automated vehicles. The developed Automotive Service Oriented Architecture (ASOA) for example enables SDVs to employ an automotive-grade service-oriented architecture, allowing over-the air updates and upgrades during operation – a core element of SDV.
Role in FEDERATE
RWTH Aachen University is represented in the project by the Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) and the Chair of Computer Science 11 (i11). Together with multiple other partners, they work on the solicitation of technology and high-level requirements. Future trends in the SDV world are gathered, and requirements, needs and constraints for SDV are collected from current research projects and other sources. Professor Lutz Eckstein, director of ika, is part of the scientific advisory board in FEDERATE. This board provides technology forecasting in relevant fields as well as on other SDV initiatives. It also acts as additional partner in WP2 (Technology and high-level requirements solicitation).
