Automotive innovation accelerates as industry unites around Open-Source collaboration

The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the Eclipse Foundation have significantly expanded their open-source collaboration to advance software-defined mobility, bringing together 32 global automotive and technology leaders under a Memorandum of Understanding. Launched at CES 2026, this initiative aims to create a shared, automotive-grade open-source software ecosystem that reduces development and maintenance efforts by up to 40 % and accelerates time-to-market by up to 30 % through interoperable, vendor-neutral foundations like the Eclipse S-CORE stack. The partnership reflects strong industry momentum toward open innovation to tackle complex software challenges, improve interoperability, and focus resources on differentiating customer-centric features for next-generation vehicles.
