FEDERATE brings the SDV community together at EFECS 2025 in Malta

On 3–4 December 2025, FEDERATE joined the European Forum for Electronic Components and Systems (EFECS 2025) in St Julian’s, Malta – the key annual meeting point for Europe’s electronic components and systems (ECS) community. Under this year’s theme, “Accelerate Innovation: Building European Competitiveness”, EFECS gathered industry leaders, policymakers, researchers and associations to discuss how Europe can strengthen its position across the semiconductor and digital value chains.

Throughout the two days, visitors could meet the FEDERATE team at Booth 23 in the projects exhibition area. The booth showcased how FEDERATE supports Europe’s emerging Software-Defined Vehicle of the Future (SDVoF) ecosystem: from mapping the SDV landscape and aligning stakeholders, to coordinating the SDVoF Initiative and supporting collaborative R&I projects across the mobility value chain.

On Thursday, 4 December, FEDERATE also delivered a project presentation (13:15–13:30) in the exhibition programme. The talk highlighted how the project:

  • connects mobility, semiconductor, open-source and digital infrastructure communities,
  • develops a shared vision, roadmap and building blocks for SDV in Europe, and
  • supports initiatives such as the European Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Alliance (ECAVA) and SDVoF R&I projects.

Across both days, the booth became a lively meeting point for OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, semiconductor companies, open-source foundations, research projects and public authorities interested in SDV. Discussions ranged from open and interoperable software stacks and safety/security challenges, to standardisation needs and how to ensure that SDV developments are aligned with Europe’s Chips Act ambitions and long-term mobility policies. EFECS 2025 confirmed that software-defined vehicles are now a central topic in the ECS ecosystem, and that coordination across projects, alliances and industry initiatives is essential. FEDERATE will build on the contacts and insights gathered in Malta to further strengthen the SDVoF Initiative, expand its community, and continue shaping a coherent European SDV roadmap together with its partners and stakeholders.
